Why an In-House Lab Benefits Your Pet

Why an In-House Lab Benefits Your Pet

Having an in-house veterinary lab means we don’t have to wait days for outside test results. Instead, we can perform many tests right here in our Edmond animal hospital and have results back in minutes. This speed is especially important for pets experiencing illness, injuries, or emergencies, when quick answers can make a critical difference in their care.

In addition, on-site testing helps us evaluate your pet’s overall health during routine preventive care visits. Combined with regular wellness exams and vaccinations, lab work provides a complete picture of your pet’s health and helps us catch issues before they become more serious. Depending on your pet’s needs, we may also send samples to an outside reference laboratory for more in-depth testing.

Common Veterinary Lab Tests We Perform

Common Veterinary Lab Tests We Perform

Our veterinary in-house laboratory allows us to run a wide range of tests for both dogs and cats, including:

  • Bloodwork (CBC & Chemistry Panels):

These tests evaluate your pet’s red and white blood cell counts, platelet levels, organ function, and electrolyte balance. They are especially helpful for detecting conditions such as anemia, infection, liver and kidney disease, and diabetes. Specialized panels can also monitor therapeutic drug levels or screen for certain diseases, such as endocrine disorders.

  • Urinalysis:

By analyzing your pet’s urine, we can check for urinary tract infections, kidney disease, diabetes, and other metabolic concerns. This simple test often provides early warning signs of illness before symptoms appear, especially in pets with early-stage kidney disease.

  • Fecal Exams:

Intestinal parasites are common in pets and can also pose risks to people. Fecal testing helps us detect intestinal parasites such as roundworms, hookworms, and whipworms so we can treat them quickly and effectively.

  • Cytology:

If your pet has ear infections, skin issues, or an unusual lump, cytology allows us to examine cells under a microscope. This test helps us diagnose bacterial or yeast infections, allergies, and abnormal growths.

Our veterinary in-house lab in Edmond, OK helps us detect illness faster, start treatment sooner, and give you peace of mind knowing your pet is in expert hands. Contact us to schedule diagnostic testing for your pet.
